What Are the Rules When it Comes to Taking Off Your Wedding Ring?

I take my wedding ring off frequently when I'm doing many things like working on the car, playing baseball, lifting weights, hunting bears and taking out the garbage (Are you impressed by my manliness yet?). My wife NEVER takes her ring off and I was wondering what are the rules of time that's its acceptable to take off your ring?
