Weld County Sheriff: Watch Out For This New Phone Scam
The Weld County Sheriff is warning residents about a new phone scam where criminals impersonate the Sheriff and try to trick people out of money.
In a press release, the Sheriff says community members have received calls from "Deputy Antonio Perez" claiming to work for the Weld County Sheriff's Office. The caller states that you've missed jury duty and have a warrant out for your arrest. After that, the caller will try to get you to buy a pre-paid card and give the card number over the phone.
Police say the number to watch out for is 970-414-7178. They go on to say that the Weld County Sheriff's Office will never accept payment in the form of gift cards, pre-paid credit cards, or any other type of credit through any store.

Tips can also be submitted through the Crime Stoppers website atwww.crimeshurt.com.Those submitting tips through Crime Stoppers that lead to the arrest and filing of charges on a suspect(s) may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $2,000 from Crime Stoppers.
