The initial report of the stolen tow truck came in at around 8 a.m. on Monday morning. Weld County Dispatch received numerous calls about the tow truck crashing into objects and vehicles as it drove north towards Greeley. Salazar arrived at the Greeley Police Headquarters as two sergeants were leaving their personal vehicles. At this time Salazar crashed into one of them.

After hitting one of the sergeants, Salazar then drove the stolen tow truck toward the gate of the secure parking lot. Salazar struck the control panel, disabling the stolen tow truck. The suspect then proceeded to leave the tow truck, crawled under the gate, and attempted to gain access to the interior of the police headquarters.

Salazar's attempt was unsuccessful to gain entry and it was at this time he was detained by officers. Salazar and a victim were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
