Governor Jared Polis and Weld County have not been on the friendliest of terms during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Their disagreements stem from Polis' safer-at-home order, enacted on April 27, which forbids businesses from reopening before Friday (May 1).

Weld County notably defied that part of the order, with Weld County Commissioners even encouraging The Bar.Ber.Shop in Greeley to open on April 27.

Polis had previously threatened to take action against Weld County if it decided to reopen early by withholding its emergency COVID-19 funds, stating that Weld County is a hot spot of the pandemic.

However, 9News reports that the Weld County Public Health Department already has its emergency COVID-19 money.

A spokesman for the county revealed that Weld County has received $209,500 in emergency funds for salaries, personal protective equipment (PPE), and more, noting that it does not plan to ask for more.

Even though businesses are now allowed to reopen under the safer-at-home order, there is no word yet on what Polis will do if Weld County continues to defy it.
