It may have been a mistake to watch the original before I went and saw this, or it might have been a great idea. When I first saw the trailer for this remake of the 1990 film by the same name, I rolled my eyes and groaned. Colin Farrell in the role that used to be Arnold? No way! I kind of got my hopes up after re-watching the original the day before saying to myself, "this remake might actually be good."

The film started off ok. It was almost shot for shot, kind of, like the original and some of the lines were verbatim. There were even a few easter eggs that were like  tribute to the original, which were awesome but then the film started to let me down.

The "main" plot in the original was about Mars and helping the rebels. The one in this one was about shutting down some robots and helping rebels. Its an ok plot but it wasn't executed very well in my opinion. At times it seemed to move very, very slow. The visuals were great, but there was too many lens flares in my opinion. It seemed like every scene had one. The film also was missing some of the humor that was in the original.

The problems with the plot aside, my main problem was the casting. Colin Farrell was not as believable as Arnold was. I know, funny right. He just seemed to be confused and didn't really adapt to the "secret agent" persona like he was supposed to. And Jessica Biel as the rebel that helps him was kind of a wuss and she just had a confused look on her face through the whole film.

I think that this film should have either fully embraced being a remake and copied the original, or it should have set its self apart and been one of those remakes that acts like the original doesn't exist.

Overall, this remake was a let down to me and I give it 2 out of 5 woman with 3 boobs.
