I heard mixed things about this movie and I had to see it for myself.

The trailer for this film makes it seem like it is going to be a really intense flick. The premise is that to function as a country without violence, we are allowed one night were everything is legal. That one night of violence and crime is good enough to keep everyone in check for the rest of the year. Kind of like 'Battle Royal' or 'Hunger Games' where because of an event, the country is at "peace".  Again this was an interesting concept but it wasn't executed well.

This film had the premise to be great to a sense but it ended up feeling very blah and full of cliches. Rather than focusing on the events of the night or really what purge night meant, it turned into a typical film where the family is trapped in their house and they have to fight off attackers. If you have seen 'Hostage', 'Panic Room', 'Straw Dogs' or any of the many films where this situation plays out, you can get the gist of this film.

It was full of the cliche suspenseful moments, guns that had infinite ammo and didn't have to be reloaded, lack luster acting and it was very predictable. I will say it again, this film had potential but it was wasted on lazy writing and film making.

Over all I give it 2 out of 5 "Lock Downs"
