Let the war begin. For the 114th time, the University of Wyoming and Colorado State University will do battle on the gridiron for the coveted Bronze Boot and this year, the battleground will be Canvas Stadium in Fort Collins.

Two schools that are separated by about 65 miles on Hwy 287 will meet for the 77th consecutive year and 114th overall although the rivalry covers 123 years as there were a few gaps in years when the two teams did not play.

Think about this impressive stat for a second, the Border War has been played in three different centuries, the first matchup between the two teams was in 1899 in Fort Collins as Colorado State took a 12-0 win. 123 years later, they meet again.

The Bronze Boot came into the picture and debuted in 1968 and is actually created from a boot worn in Vietnam by Dan Romero, a CSU ROTC instructor.

It's a very special trophy with very special meaning as its had some memorable games and moments over the years.

Currently, Wyoming has the Bronze Boot after a 31-17 win in Laramie last year. The last time the game was played in Fort Collins was in 2020 when no fans were in attendance and the Rams won that game 34-24.

The last time CSU won the Bronze Boot at home in front of a crowd was way back in 2014 and that was in Hughes Stadium.

Overall, Colorado State holds the edge in the series by a count of 59-49 with 5 ties. All 5 ties came before the Bronze Boot was created and we won't have to worry about who gets the trophy if there's a tie thanks to overtime now being in play for college football.

There is a ton of pride and tradition that goes into this game and no matter what the team's records are in this game, it's truly an all out war and the atmosphere is expected to be electric Saturday at Canvas Stadium albeit chilly, temps are expected to be around 40 at kickoff with the mercury expected to drop throughout the game that evening.

Kickoff is set for 5pm and if you can't make it out to the stadium, you can always catch CSU Rams football here in K99, your home for Colorado State Rams football.
