I love this time of year, but at the same time it makes me sad. I remember growing up the talk was about what we are going to eat for Thanksgiving, where we were going to have it, what time football was on and what family games we were going to play. Now all you hear about Thanksgiving is how it is the day before Black Friday and that is what makes me sad.  When did Black Friday become the main "holiday" of November? It makes me sad. Thanksgiving is about hanging out with family, eating and sharing thanks and love. Not about how it is a free day off of work, for most, and just the day before Black Friday. The day to get up early and try to get deals that honestly are not worth it.

Thanksgiving not only gets overshadowed by Black Friday but it also gets looked over because most places start putting up Christmas decor up right after Halloween and start playing Christmas music. I love Christmas time as much as the next person, but come on people! Thanksgiving is just as important and it deserves November! Start Christmas stuff after Thanksgiving.

I guess the main point I am trying to get across is don't forget about the holiday of giving thanks. Don't let Black Friday overshadow this once great holiday. Sure there might be some "great deals" but honestly, who cares? The holidays are not about what gifts you got for so and so, or what "deals" you snatched up. They are about being with the ones you love. So I ask of you, take this "free" day off if you have it and spend it with your family, friends or strangers and make some new friends. Remember that being human means we have the joy to connect with others and not about the material things that usually drive the holiday season. Use this time to do some good, to share smiles, laughs and love.

I am going to leave you with this one final thought. If Black Friday didn't exist, more stores would be closed for the holiday season and that means more people would get to spend those days, hours, minutes with their loved ones enjoying life and not dreading going to work. Please remember Thanksgiving and the memories behind it.

I think that this song really fits this post and I am not sure why.
