Students at Westminster School Quarantining After Teacher Tests Positive

A number of students at Josephine Hodgkins Leadership Academy in Westminster are quarantining after a teacher at the school tested positive for COVID-19.

According to 9News, the teacher received the positive test on Friday (August 21) after attending the school on Thursday (August 20) for its first day.

Students who did not have contact with the teacher will continue in-person learning. The affected students must resort to online-only learning for two weeks.

In a statement about the case, Westminster Public Schools hinted that positive COVID-19 cases in schools are inevitable, and encouraged students to wear masks, wash their hands, and social distance.

"We are in contact with the Tri-County Health Department and are implementing our response plan that was created with the understanding that at some point a student or staff member would test positive," read the statement. "Unfortunately, this is the new reality for public schools this year and we all need to look out for ourselves and each other."

Multiple Colorado schools have also seen positive cases of the virus since beginning in-person learning, including Windsor Middle School, Fort Lupton High School, and Lamar Middle School.
