Colorado Middle School Moving Back Online After COVID-19 Exposure
Students at Lamar Middle School will return to online-only learning following the discovery of a positive COVID-19 case at the school.
According to a Facebook post from Lamar School District Re2, an unidentified child, who had been in contact with other students and staff, recently tested positive for the virus.
Those who were in contact with the child will be required to quarantine, while all sixth grade students will switch to an online-only learning model.
Seventh and eighth grade students will also have the option to learn solely online.
Students in the district returned to school Aug. 10.
"Our greatest priority is the safety of our students, staff and community members. It is important to remember that children are greatly influenced by the reactions of adults when facing difficult circumstances," said Lamar School District Superintendent Dave Tecklenburg in the post. "I encourage everyone to remain calm and to be empathetic and respectful to those affected. We are grateful for the opportunity to serve you and your family, especially as we face this challenging situation together."
Tecklenburg also noted that the school district is working closely with county health officials for further guidance on the situation.
Prior to the discovery of the positive case, the middle school had expected the school year to begin in a hybrid model between in-person and online learning.
