So, what's all the hype behind chalk paint about? I finally found out, thanks to an Annie Sloan Chalk Paint class hosted by Niche Design House.

Julie, my teacher, told me that there are a lot of misunderstandings about what chalk paint actually is. A lot of people think that it's what you use to make chalk boards, but that's actually not true. Chalk paint comes in a variety of colors and was designed for its velvety, matte finish. It was created as a paint that can be used without sanding or priming most surfaces first, making it easy and versatile to use.

For my painting class, Julie taught me how to use the Scandinavian Pink color to transform a white picture frame (because of course I chose pink), and how to accent the piece with different types of waxes for a complete finish. Check out my photos from the class in the gallery below.

I won't get into the exact step-by-step process of using the paint; instead, I'll encourage you to take an Annie Sloan Chalk Paint class for yourself and learn more about the Paint Space program that Niche Design House offers, as well as the amount of guidance their teachers and designers offer you when you enter their store.

The crafting doesn't just stop at painting, either. Niche Design House's Thanksgiving centerpiece craft class happens on November 14, and you can preregister by simply calling Niche Design House's showroom at (970) 460-0822. If you're interested in their November Annie Sloan class, you need to preregister by November 13.

For more information on Niche Design House's next craft day, see their Facebook ad or check out their website for all of the details. They will also be doing a mini holiday open house on Saturday, November 30th. This open house will feature a "make-and-take craft" and does not require preregistration.

Niche Design House has a variety of crafts that they want to teach you how to create yourself, and chalk paint colors that will impress the in-laws when they come in for Thanksgiving this year! Stop by the Niche Design House showroom or call them at (970) 460-0822 to learn more about chalk paint; you'll be glad you did.
