PSD Superintendent ‘Disgusted’ By Student’s Racist Instagram Post

Poudre School District Superintendent Sandra Smyser said she was "disgusted and disappointed" by a racist social media post from what appeared to be a Poudre High School student.

The post showed the student kneeling on a black cow's neck, referencing "George" in the caption, using the hashtag #Icantbreathe.

This came less than a week after George Floyd was killed with his neck pressed under the weight of an officer's knee in Minnesota last Monday.

For the past several days, there has been public outcry across America against racial injustice, in the form of police brutality, targeting the black community.

According to the Coloradoan, a PSD administrator contacted the student's parents asking them to remove the post. Smyser emailed a letter to district parents which was shared with the media on Saturday night.

Screenshots of the post were widely shared among Northern Colorado's youth before it was removed. By Sunday morning, the student's account could no longer be found on Instagram.

"The contents of the post's photo and text are inappropriate and hurtful at any time," Smyser wrote. "We take this very seriously. ... We do not tolerate hate or racism of any group at any time in PSD.
