‘Promposal’ Spray Painted on CO Monument – Vandals Being Sought
Showing your love for someone on large, stationary objects has been happening for ages - on overpasses, water towers, cutting a sweet message into a tree - but there's a thick line that gets crossed when you spray paint anything on a scenic recreational area like what happened near Grand Junction recently.
There are a lot of things about this that suck the romance of this "promposal." For one, this is the site of the Colorado National Monument, an area people visit for its natural beauty. Not this.
For another, this is a really good way to get six months in jail and a $5000 fine.
It doesn't help that it takes an extremely meticulous plan to clean that up in a way that won't further damage the area. Preservationalists are currently surveying the exact extent of the damage. For example, there are sometimes other subtle drawings/markings from history that we would want to keep there, and it takes a lot of attention to see to that.
