Before I get into this, I can understand the schools intention but I don't agree. Greeley school district said that students from elementary up to high school are not allowed to wear Peyton Manning jerseys to school because of gang affiliation. No, Manning is not in a gang, they are referring to his number, 18. According to school policy the numbers 13, 14, 18, 31,41 and 81 are band numbers because of gang tie ins. The school district says that they are trying to minimize the presence of gangs in the schools. They say if a student were to wear these numbers, they can be used to raise awareness of gangs or used for intimidation. Officials say that it could cause a misunderstanding. If a student was to wear a jersey with the number out on lunch, someone might mistake them for a member of 18th street and attack them. School officials follow that up saying that you can wear it outside of school but not in school. Make sense? No.

Other districts that have a restriction on clothes for gang affiliation is :

Adams 14: Gang like Graffiti

Adams 12: Sports jerseys

Douglas County: any gang related clothing.
