Flatulence is a fairly normal (albeit annoying and/or embarrassing) bodily function. We all do it. According to MSNBC most people pass gas about 14 times a day. But the African country of Malawi is making the passing of gas in public an illegal activity!

The next time you let out a little silent but deadly emission into the air, just be glad you don’t live in Malawi. The government there has made public flatulence against the law. Their government plans to punish offenders "who foul the air" in order to try and “craft responsible and disciplined citizens." There is no official word on what the punishment for the crime will be but all cases will be handled by local courts.

Somehow forcing me to hold all that inside would probably drive me crazy before it made me any more responsible or disciplined.

This whole story comes from Time Magazine, in it they also point out some other strange laws against bodily functions such as; burping during a church service in Nebraska, spitting in Singapore, and picking your nose while driving in Canada. Read the whole article here.

Can you imagine if they tried banning bodily emissions here? I can think of a few people that would be in prison for life.

Are there any bodily functions you think should be against the law?
