One individual is dead following a Sunday (October 11) paddleboarding incident on Chatfield Reservoir.

According to 9News, high winds pushed two paddleboarders into the water around 3:30 p.m. that afternoon.

One paddleboarder was able to make it to shore, but witnesses saw the other disappear under the water.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) and South Metro Fire Rescue (SMFR) began conducting a rescue mission using sonar grid search, but officials switched to a recovery mission around 5:30 p.m.

CPW later announced on Twitter that they had located the body of the paddleboarder. The Jefferson County coroner has not yet identified the victim.

The Sunday winds also caused another incident on Soda Lakes near C-470, when a large gust knocked a man off of his sailboard.

Bystanders were able to pull the man out of water, but 9News reports that the accident has left him "critically injured."
