Nearly 40% Of Larimer County COVID-19 Deaths Recorded In Nov, Dec

Larimer County's COVID-19 death toll is on track to reach 100 since the beginning of the pandemic.

As of Wednesday (Dec. 16), there have been 98 recorded deaths in Larimer County since March.

According to Larimer County Public Health director Tom Gonzales, 39% of the 98 deaths were recorded in November and December.

Gonzales said in a county commissioners meeting on Tuesday (Dec. 15) that hospitals in the county are seeing a significant increase in the number of patients who need to be in intensive care.

“That is concerning,” Gonzales added.

On a brighter note, Gonzales noted that the county seems to have hit a plateau in COVID-19 cases.

“We are starting to see it slowly decline,” Gonzales said. He added the county has also not seen another wave after Thanksgiving, something health officials were initially very concerned about.

“We are not seeing another spike we were so worried about that would have really pressured our hospitals,” he said.

151 additional cases were recorded on the Larimer County Department of Health's COVID-19 dashboard Tuesday (Dec. 15); the county's cumulative total now stands at 13,099 since March.

Larimer County remains a high-risk area, as there are six of eight risk factors in the red category, according to the county's COVID-19 risk dial.

The county's two-week positivity rating, however, has slightly dropped falling to 11.2%. The overall prevalence rate also declined and now stands at 739 cases per 100,000 people.
