Two weeks! Two weeks is all the break we get from political ads! According to Fox 31, a new blitz of political campaign advertisements will start in Colorado next Tuesday.

Noooooooooooo!

Fox reports that three of the country’s largest labor unions are planning a “six-figure ad blitz in favor of President Obama’s position in the just-beginning negotiations over how to avoid the nation’s fiscal cliff.”

Colorado, Missouri, Virginia will all be blasted by the ads as well as several GOP House districts of lawmakers that have stated they want to roll back the Bush Era tax cuts for the wealthy.

So, this is what is has come to? Buying enough ad-time to convince to lowest-common denominator of our population that one side or another is right about our fiscal issues is how we get things done?

I do think the public needs to be informed and make their voices heard by our government officials. But isn’t the whole reason we elect officials in the first place so they can make decisions that are best for the people?

I am a little confused as why politicians and lobbyist groups spend millions of dollars (probably “our” dollars) convincing us, to change their minds about how they should spend our tax dollars.

Political campaigning, advertising, propaganda, lying, slander…how did we let all of those terms become synonymous?

Well, cheers to the next four days of political ad-freedom.
