Historic Reenactments Ride Back to Northern Colorado

Greeley, Colorado's unique attraction swings open its doors on May 25 to a new season and to celebrate its new status as a city landmark in a big way.

The Centennial Village Museum, an 8-acre living museum with more than 35 historic buildings, transports visitors to the High Plains of the 1860s-1920s. As a Bicentennial Project, it earned the designation, which allows the city to pursue preservation funding to keep the project alive and fresh, ensuring stories of the Colorado High Plains region live on.

A special Centennial Celebration on Saturday, May 25, kicks off the museum's season, promising an immersive journey through history with live blacksmithing and woodcarving demonstrations showcasing the grit and craftsmanship of early plains life.

The event runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The museum is located at 1475 A St., in Greeley.

Special Colorado history reenactment presentation

A highlight of the event is two performances by the Buffalo Soldiers of the American West, scheduled at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. The re-enactors bring to life the stories of the 9th and 10th U.S. Cavalry, all-Black regiments formed just after the Civil War. Their contributions were vital to the United States' westward expansion, involving everything from building forts and railroads to delivering mail and policing the prairies and mountains.

What is the Centennial Village Museum?

The museum features some of Weld County's oldest structures, each staffed by costumed interpreters who breathe life into the tales of yesteryear.

Visitors can also meet heritage farm animals, adding an authentic touch to the living history experience.

The Centennial Village Museum is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays from May 24 to Aug. 31.
