Beginning a New Chapter, Denver’s Mike Nelson Retires This Week
Denver television news is going to be looking a lot different as Christmas 2024 comes around, with the retirement of meteorologist Mike Nelson.
A celebrated career dating back to the 1970s comes to an end the week of December 9, 2024; how many forecasts has he given in nearly 50 years?
The man has dedicated his career to helping people, mostly Coloradans, know and understand weather; he'll definitely be missed.
Beloved Colorado Meteorologist Retires
Just think about how many Coloradans have seen Mike Nelson over the span of his career in Colorado; first at 9News from 1991-2004, and then with Denver 7 from 2004 until his retirement.
Mike is not only widely-know in Colorado, but across the nation as well, as being an expert on all things "Weather." He helped to create the very first computer weather graphics used on television when he was VP of Weather Central back in the late 70s.
Denver Meteorologist Famous for 'Tornado Dance' Retires
Over his career, Mike spoke with over 750,000 schoolchildren about weather, including Colorado's being susceptible to tornados; he'd help kids understand tornados with his "Tornado Dance."
Denver's Mike Nelson's Last TV Broadcast December 12, 2024
In February of 2024, Mike announced his pending retirement coming at the end of the year; though it gave time for people to adjust, it still came as bittersweet. The man deserves retirement, but we'll miss having him on Denver TV.
