Man Deposits Junk Mail Check For $95,000 And It Was Honored
This is an older story but a goodie!
You know that junk mail that we all get that has a check in it with an absurd amount and says something along the lines of "this could be yours if you blah blah blah"? Well, Patrick Combs got one of those fake checks in the mail with a value of $95,093.35 on it and for fun he went and deposited it at his bank's ATM.
He said that he did it as a joke and it was the most fun he had had at the bank. He even endorsed his check with a smiley face. He was expecting a call from his bank but it never came and five days later he went to make a withdraw and he noticed his amount in his account had grown quite large!
He waited a few weeks for the bank to catch their error and he was eventually told that he could start withdrawing the money by a branch manager. Why was it cashed? Because the fake check had non-negotiable on it which didn't invalidate the check. Lucky Break.
