A visitor from out-of-state was arrested on Saturday for allegedly trying to kill his wife.

According to a news release from Boulder County Sheriff's Office, 34-year-old Rodney David Burba Jr. and his wife, both from Alaska, were visiting the Denver metro area for the holidays when they decided to travel to Estes Park on Saturday afternoon. Unfortunately this trip took a very grim turn while traveling north of Lyons, where Rodney consumed several pieces of edible marijuana gum to remedy his anxiety and agitation.

Soon after, he reportedly grabbed the steering wheel from the passenger seat on multiple occasions and jerked the wheel "in an attempt to either cause a head-on collision with oncoming traffic, or to cause the vehicle to leave the shoulder of the roadway and drive over the side of a cliff."

Rodney's wife, who was driving the vehicle, tried to call 911 several times while heading back to Lyons, but there was no cell service and she didn't feel safe stopping for that reason.

The couple made it to Redstone Liquor in Lyons, where BCSO deputies were dispatched on the report at 4:15 p.m. Rodney David Burba Jr. was arrested and charged with attempted murder in the second degree, obstruction of a telephone, reckless endangerment, and littering, all with a foundation of domestic violence. He remains in custody at Boulder County Jail without bond.

The charges listed are allegations as the defendant maintains the presumption of innocence until proven guilty.
