If you hear a loud, low-flying aircraft hovering somewhere nearby today, don't freak out.  It's part of a scheduled infrared scan of the area.

The Coloradoan reports a helicopter will be conducting scans of the Fort Collins area today, in order to check power substations and transmission lines.

The helicopter will be checking equipment for hot spots and potential equipment failures. The scan will also make sure that transmission lines have adequate ground and vegetation clearance.

Scanning is scheduled to take place between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. today.

Again, no need to panic.  Everything is fine; nothing is ruined. :)
