Police are searching for a male who police believe started a fire inside a Longmont church early Sunday morning.

Police say firefighters responded to an alarm at 5:40 a.m. at Central Longmont Presbyterian Church. When firefighters arrived, the sprinkler system was already engaged and kept the fire from spreading. Nobody was in the church at the time of the incident and early estimates put damage at around $5,000.

Pastor David Barker told 9News that the church has security cameras so they "have video of what transpired." After an investigation, authorities found that a man broke out a window then used an accelerant to start the blaze.

Police are asking anyone with tips to call them at  303-651-850.
