Leonardo DiCaprio Was Almost in ‘Moulin Rouge’ But Couldn’t Hold a Note
Leonardo DiCaprio may have turned down a role in the cult classic 'Hocus Pocus,' but his lack of singing talent lost him the part of Christian in 'Moulin Rouge.'
Womp, womp.
As Leo revealed to Variety, director Baz Luhrmann had plans to reunite with the actor following their film 'Romeo + Juliet,' but DiCaprio's lack of singing talent ultimately cost him the role.
"To be honest, I'm not really prepared to do a musical, simply because I think I have a pretty atrocious voice," he explained. "But we had a friendly thing where it was me and [Baz] and a piano player, and we tried to sing a song together. It didn't go too well."
Leo continued, "I think [the song] was 'Lean on Me', and when I hit the high note, he just turned to me [and said], 'Yes, D, I don't know if this conversation should continue.'"
Ouch, that's some shady shade right there.
Don't cry for Leo, though, the duo would go on to team up again for 'The Great Gatsby.'
As he responded, laughing the memory off, "The truth is I honestly feel just so lucky to make movies."
