It's no secret that coronavirus cases are on the rise in Larimer County and in surrounding areas.

In a press release on Thursday (Nov. 5), The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) ordered Larimer County to move to Safer At Home Level 2 (Yellow) restrictions as a result of rising COVID-19 case counts and positivity rates within the county. Larimer County had previously been under Safe At Home Level 1(Blue) restrictions. Level 2 (Yellow) restrictions include:

  • Maximum attendees at indoor worship services cannot exceed 50 people
  • Maximum attendees at gyms cannot exceed 50 people
  • Maximum attendees at restaurants cannot exceed 50 people (or up to 100 if the space has adequate social distancing)
  • Maximum participants for group sports cannot exceed 25 per activity
  • Maximum attendees for indoor events cannot exceed 100 people, or 175 for outdoor events
  • Last call will remain at 11:00 pm

According to the Loveland Reporter-Herald, Larimer County has seen more than 650 new COVID-19 cases in the past week.

In an effort to slow the spread of COVID-19 and to prevent a surge in cases, Larimer County Public Health Director Tom Gonzales has asked residents to step up and do their part by not having any indoor gatherings among households.

He is also asking county residents to limit their possible exposure by taking steps like going to the grocery store less frequently, taking meals to go or making reservations at restaurants ahead of time, rather than waiting on a table indoors.

While Gonzales realizes that people might not want to stay cooped up in their homes, he is asking Larimer County residents to step up their prevention efforts for at least the next three weeks, in hopes that it will be enough to prevent a further surge leading up to Thanksgiving.

“We are at a critical juncture with our community response and we are asking all our residents to increase their diligence and limit their interactions in the community,” Gonzales said.

The changes will go into effect Friday (Nov. 6) at 5 p.m.
