History of Grand Lake
European hunting parties reached the area of Grand Lake in the mid-1800s. They built cabins along the lake shore and hired mountain guides to help them find game to hunt. The town of Grand Lake was established in 1867. By 1870, silver was discovered in the lakes and rivers around the lake, which helped bring even more people to the area.

Not only is Grand Lake Colorado's deepest lake, but it's also the largest natural lake found in the state.
