A resilient Red Fox is on the road to recovery after surviving a heartbreaking incident last week.

On June 19, Arvada Animal Management responded to a call about a juvenile Red Fox that had been shot with an arrow off of Quay Court in Arvada. Officers acted quickly and were able to safely contain the injured animal. The female fox was then transported to Rocky Mountain Wildlife Alliance Wildlife Hospital in Sedalia for emergency medical care.

Upon intake, the juvenile female was found to be in fair condition. The wound, which was estimated to be 1-3 days old, had penetrated her left shoulder and exited through the right side of her neck. Thankfully, X-rays revealed that the arrow had missed her vital tissues, airways, blood vessels, and spine. She received oxygen, fluid therapy, pain medication, and antibiotics to stabilize her further. The team of wildlife specialists also trimmed the arrow shaft so that the fox could rest more comfortably. A few days later, a surgical procedure was performed to remove the rest of the arrow.

Arvada Animal Management took the piece of the arrow as evidence and further wants the public's help in identifying who committed this horrific act. If this arrow style looks familiar, or you have any information that could assist officers with this case, please contact them at 720-898-6900.

Although the fox will need much more time to heal, staff at Rocky Mountain Wildlife Alliance are optimistic about her recovery and hope to release her back into the wild in a few months.
