Mountain Lion Spotted Near Greeley Campus
According to a statement from the Greeley Police Department, a mountain lion was reported near the area. Greeley Police worked with Colorado Parks and Wildlife to find a solution.
Greeley Police secured the area to ensure safety and tried to keep the mountain lion away from Madison K8 on 26th Avenue Court. When the mountain lion attempted to break out of the control area, an officer shot a round.
Denver7 reports that the mountain lion was fatally shot.
Why the Mountain Lion Was Shot in Greeley
When mountain lions and other wildlife are not in areas they are supposed to be they are typically tranquilized and removed from the area. The Greeley Police Department said in their statement that there was a long response time from Colorado Parks and Wildlife. Colorado Parks and Wildlife would typically be responsible for moving the animal.

The Greeley Police Department said that when the mountain lion attempted to break out the officer fired the shot to guarantee safety.
