An official agreement has been reached between the City of Greeley and the Colorado Eagles.

Colorado Eagles Officially Moving to Greeley

Last year, we shared with you news of a plan to move the AHL affiliate of the Colorado Avalanche to Greeley and out of Blue Arena. This comes just under a year since the Greeley Westside Project was announced to the public.

It includes a new arena for the Colorado Eagles, hotel, waterpark, and shops.

40-Year Lease Signed for New Greeley Arena with Colorado Eagles

In an official press release from the Eagles communications team, both parties have agreed on the principal terms of a 40-year lease at this new arena within the Cascadia development.

“We are extremely excited to partner with the City of Greeley to become the anchor tenant at this world-class facility,” said Eagles owner and CEO Martin Lind.

Colorado Eagles to Stay at Blue Arena Until 2028

“As we await the completion of construction, we are pleased to be able to continue to entertain our fans at Blue Arena, which has served as our home since our inaugural season in 2003-04. We will continue to provide the same outstanding experience that our fans have enjoyed for over two decades..."

Under the terms of this new agreement, the Eagles will play the next three seasons at Blue Arena. When the AHL kicks off for the 2028–2029 season, the team will move to the new facility in Greeley.

For the next few years, every single home game will continue to be played at the Ranch Complex in Larimer County.

New Colorado Eagles Arena Details

This new arena will be able to seat 8,600 fans and will have three additional ice sheets for youth hockey. It's a key part of the Catalyst Project which plans to create an entertainment district for the west side of Greeley.

Officials confirm that it will be located near the intersection of Highway 34 and County Road 17.

“The Colorado Eagles are more than just a hockey team — they symbolize community pride, perseverance, and excellence,” said Conor McGrath, Ranch Managing Director.

“We are proud of the foundation that Ralph Backstrom and the entire Eagles organization built here. Their ability to inspire youth to pick up a stick, lace up skates, and embrace the game is a legacy that will last for generations. As the Eagles take the ice at The Ranch for the 2025–2026 season, we look forward to many more memorable moments together and to continuing the legacy they have created.”
