I don't usually like the zoo. But now I have kids so I decided to make the trek to the Denver Zoo for them, this past weekend. The hour long drive was filled with lots of "are we there yets" and some fussing, but all is forgotten when you see your first large amazing animal. There is something completely amazing that happens when you see a giraffe, then an elephant, then primates. I could say that it's a religious experience. I guess for me it is. For the kids, though, it was a first.

The boys were so excited to see an elephant up close. For Tula, who has been to the zoo a few times, it was the primates that really captured her attention this time. There was an orangutan family and the interaction between mother and baby was awesome to see. Video is below. Also, there happened to be one lone gorilla sitting and pondering life right near the glass. He looked really sad and that seemed to really draw her in. We've talked a lot with her about the links between primates and humans. I'm so glad we went to the zoo. It's always a good feeling to remember how small we are in this life, and how majestic nature is.

My name is Kama and I'm a Mom...and that just freaks me out sometimes. I'm a bunch of other things that used to seem really important, but somehow being a Mom blurs those other things into mush. I have a 4 year-old daughter and 1 year-old twin boys. Everyday I have a "holy s**t, I can't believe I'm a Mom" moment and those get shared here.
