Greeley Names New Police Chief After Old Chief Retires
Mark Jones has been named Greeley’s new Police Chief effective June 2, 2018. The Police Chief reports to the City Manager and will provide administrative leadership to a department of 210 full-time staff. Greeley Police Chief, Jerry Garner, retired from the force after 49 years in law enforcement.
Jones was one of the five finalists for the position to participate in the interview process. Ultimately it was Jones’ track record of collaboration, effectiveness as a leader, vision, and desire to take the Greeley Police Department to the next level that persuaded City Manager, Roy Otto, that Jones was the best person for the position.
Jones most recently served as Police Captain for the Greeley Police Department since 2014 and prior to that held the positions of Lieutenant, Sergeant and Police Officer with the Department. His background and experience includes a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Northern Colorado and he is a graduate of the FBI National Academy.
When asked what attracted him to the position, Jones stated, “I have lived life, raised my family in Greeley, and watched as it has grown into a diverse and vibrant city. I look forward to the opportunity of offering continued leadership, experience and transparency to the citizens of Greeley.”
