The Poudre River Whitewater Park will be celebrating a public grand opening from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, October 12. The new Fort Collins park is at 618 N. College Ave., where the Poudre River passes under College.

'The Poudre River Whitewater Park has long been a dream for the Fort Collins community,'  Kurt Friesen, director of Park Planning and Development with the City of Fort Collins, said in a press release. Now, it's a reality.

The grand opening celebration, held at 201 E. Vine Drive on Saturday (parking info here), will include live music, kids' activities and a ribbon cutting. Fortunately, it won't be quite so cold on Saturday, with temperatures warming back up into the low 60s (and no snow).

Sure, this time of the year may not be ideal for jumping into the Poudre, but located just north of Old Town, tubers and kayakers can now ride the river in the new park during the summer.

More information on the new park can be found here.
