Do you recycle? Then you probably know the difference between corrugated cardboard and paperboard(see difference below). If the City of Fort Collins passes the proposed ban on putting corrugated cardboard in the trash of residences and of businesses, there will be a pretty hard learning curve on those who are not recycling savvy. On Tuesday the City Council on gave initial approval to that ordinance prohibiting disposal of corrugated cardboard through the waste stream. Potential charges would be implemented by trash haulers who would determine if more than 25% of the trash contents are cardboard. There is a lot of potential for this to be frustrating to people.

According to the Coloradoan:

If the measure passes on a final reading, its requirement to recycle cardboard would be a first in Colorado, although other cities across the country have bans on trashing cardboard, city officials say.The goal of the regulation is to reduce the amount of cardboard that ends up in local landfills...The ordinance is tentatively scheduled for final reading on March 5. If adopted, the ordinance could go into effect 10 days later. But city staff members they would promote education about the rules on cardboard for up to 12 months before issuing warning tickets to violators.
