Fort Collins Police Investigate Fatal Motorcycle Collision
On May 16, 2020 just before 3:30 p.m., the Fort Collins Police were notified of a motorcycle and sedan collision near the intersection of Shields Street and Fossil Creek Drive.
A 2001 Yamaha R1 motorcycle was approaching Fossil Creek Drive while going southbound on Shields when a 2014 Subaru Outback sedan made a left turn from Fossil Creek Drive onto Shields. The motorcycle front collided with the sedan's backside.
A 38-year-old woman from Fort Collins was driving the sedan with a passenger, both of whom only suffered minor injuries.
The motorcyclist, a 42-year-old Fort Collins man, was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision. He was treated at the scene, but he did not survive his injuries.
It took investigators nearly 4.5 hours to process the scene on Shields. Police believe the speed of the motorcycle contributed to the collision, according to their press release.
