One Dead, One Injured In Fort Collins Crash With Semi-Truck
One woman is dead and another individual was injured following a serious car crash involving a semi-truck in Fort Collins on Tuesday (Mar. 30).
According to an official press release from the City of Fort Collins, Fort Collins 911 received a call regarding a serious collision at the intersection of East Mulberry Street and northeast Frontage Road at 4:25 p.m on Tuesday afternoon.
A 2002 Jeep Cherokee driven by an adult female was reportedly heading west on Mulberry Street and turned left to go south on the Frontage Road; at the same time, a 2007 Peterbilt semi-truck, driven by an adult male, was traveling eastbound on Mulberry Street when the two collided in the intersection.
An adult woman, the sole passenger in the Jeep Cherokee died as a result of the collision, and the driver of the vehicle was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the Peterbilt did not sustain any injuries.
The press release says the Larimer County Coroner's Office will release the identity, cause and manner of the deceased female at a later date.
The Fort Collins Police Services CRASH (Collision Reconstruction and Scene Handling Team) responded to take over the investigation of Tuesday's fatal collision. Mulberry Street was blocked for approximately 4.5 hours on Tuesday while investigators processed the scene.
Investigators are currently assessing the events that might've led up to the collision and which vehicle had the right of way.
"These cases have lasting impacts; while our investigators will work to determine the cause of the accident, our thoughts tonight are with those who were involved and witnessed this event," said Lieutenant Mike Trombley who oversees the Fort Collins Police CRASH Team.
