Fort Collins Nonprofit Helping to Change the Reality of Child Care

As a single parent I get the high cost of child care these days. What about early childhood programs though? There is a nonprofit in Fort Collins that is literally changing the reality of this.

As the Coloradan reported, there is a early child care center in Fort Collins that is offering low-income families a chance to receive early childhood education based on a sliding scale.

The place making this a hope for so many parents a reality is Teaching Tree Early Childhood Learning Center located at 424 Pine Street, Suite 100 in Fort Collins. This center can serve 100 children at a time. They also have a Loveland location that can accommodate 50 children.

A look at the numbers

According to the Early Childhood Council of Larimer County, currently a week of child care for a 2- to 5-year-old child in a full time child care center in Larimer County costs an average of $222.40.

The center offers sliding-scale fees to help change the reality of child care.

The nonprofit uses donations to supplement what low-income families can afford. Last year, Teaching Tree raised more than $130,000 last year to support 106 families who otherwise wouldn't have been able to afford services.
