Fort Collins, Colorado Named One of Seven 'Climate Hubs'

Here's some big news; the Obama Administration announced today, that Fort Collins is one of nine cites that have been chosen to become 'climate hubs' for the country.

What does that mean?

According to a USDA press release the president unveiled his plans to establish seven regional hubs that will help deal with climate changes and events. They would basically be information centers to help ranchers and farmers deal with things like drought, fire, bugs, and floods.

"Climate Hubs" will address increasing risks such as fires, invasive pests, devastating floods, and crippling droughts on a regional basis, aiming to translate science and research into information to farmers, ranchers, and forest landowners on ways to adapt and adjust their resource management.

The seven cities chosen to be climate hubs are:

Ames, Iowa
Durham, New Hampshire
Raleigh, North Carolina
Fort Collins, Colorado
El Reno, Oklahoma
Corvallis, Oregon
Las Cruces, New Mexico
With additional "sub hubs" in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico; Davis, California; and Houghton, Michigan.

I'm guessing this is going to mean more jobs in town and probably means some interesting opportunities for some of the colleges at Colorado State University.
