Fort Collins Celebrates Bike to Work Day June 22
On Wednesday, June 22, residents of Fort Collins are encouraged to trade their four-wheels in for two, by opting to ride a bicycle to work instead of driving. Bike to Work Day happens twice a year – once in the middle of winter, and again when summer rolls around.
Not only does biking benefit the environment by reducing traffic and air pollution, but it’s great for people too, in that it burns calories, reduces stress, and saves money on gas. Plus, pedaling to work makes for a refreshing way start to the morning, and along the routes, bicyclists are invited to pick up a free breakfast and hot coffee at any of the 40 stations that will be set up around town. Between the hours of 6:30-9:30 a.m., pro mechanics and volunteers from Bike Fort Collins will be on-site at Oak Street Plaza, as well as some of the breakfast stations, happy to help with repairs and tune-ups.
Rounding out the day's festivities will be a Bike From Work Celebration, happening from 4-6 p.m. at Odell Brewing Company. Those who ride their bike to the brewery during this time will be given a token that's good for an Odell pint. The staff from Brave New Wheel will also be present to give away a free bicycle, with proceeds going back to Fort Collins Bike Share.
The forecast for Wednesday is sunny and 85 degrees, so don't forget to keep hydrated! Click here to download the map of breakfast station locations.
