Imagine driving into scenic Estes Park, the majestic mountains, the sleepy mountain homes, boutiques and the quietness of winter. Now imagine a four-story parking garage.

As reported by the Loveland Reporter-Herald, Estes Park town officials are hoping to build a four-story parking garage above a current parking lot south of the town's visitors center. I agree, parking is not the best in Estes Park, but that adds to the adventure of going there, doesn't it?

The first phase (being considered now and open to public comment) would build one deck, adding 108 parking spaces, on top of an existing parking lot that straddles land owned by Estes Park and the Bureau of Reclamation that is currently sitting at 102 spaces, bringing the total to 210 for this phase. The lot would be located outside the visitors center and Estes Park Transit Center. This location was chosen because shuttle buses run to downtown, nearby attractions and Rocky Mountain National Park several times per day during the summer and fall.

Do you have strong feelings about this? Tell us what you think! Take the poll, we will share the results with the Bureau of Reclamation. Or you can submit your comments directly to the Bureau of Reclamation (through January 15). Send to Terence Stroh, Bureau of Reclamation, 11056 W. County Road 18E, Loveland, CO 80537 or email tstroh@usbr.gov.
