I can remember a time not too long ago when there were two or three restaurants or bars in Downtown Greeley that were worth going to. In recent years the downtown area has cleaned up and added many great business. Now the area has become the first in the state to allow you to take your alcohol to go as well. Tonight, the new law goes into effect and to help celebrate, the  Friday Fest kickoff concert is tonight as well.

Earlier this week it was confirmed that Greeley would become the first city in the state to allow people to drink out of open alcohol containers while strolling outside in certain areas. The area being called the “Go-Cup” district is confined to the 9th Street Plaza in Downtown Greeley.  The allowance will be limited to Friday nights from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. (with last call at 10 p.m.) June 8 through Oct. 26, weather permitting.

The Downtown Development Authority said it expects about 2,000 attendees at the debut of the “Go-Cup” district and Friday Fest kickoff tonight.

Along with the music and the booze, you can also register to win a VIP Las Vegas Trip valued at $3,500 (Final winner will be drawn  August 17), a Trip for 2 to Copper Mountain Resort valued at $800 (winner will be drawn July 13th), and monthly prizes of Rockies Club Level Tickets.
