Don’t Throw Away Your Mascara Wands, NoCo!
OK, so you've reached the bottom of your tube of mascara. The black goop is dry and crackly, so you know what that means: it's time to head to Sephora for new makeup.
So what do you do with the mascara wand? Throw it away, right? There's actually some good you can do with that random piece of trash, and it involves helping adorable animals.
The Appalachian Wildlife Refuge recently went viral after they sent out a plea for old mascara wands. The animal organization helps injured or orphaned animals rescued from the wild, and one of the methods of care includes brushing off fly eggs or larvae from fur and feathers of some of the animals. According to the organization, this is the perfect job for an old, cleaned mascara wand.
The organization encourages you to wash you mascara wands before mailing them out and to send them to P.O. Box 1211, Skyland, NC 28776. Since more and more donations have been rolling in, they are now only accepting wands in October and February, so it's time to clean out your makeup drawer.
It's nice to know that some of our used items can help animals in need, and this is just one instance where looking great really pays off in the long run. Learn more about Wands for Wildlife right here.
