Outside of the occasional pet, I had no idea. However, these ferrets are a little different than those in a cage. These are wild ferrets that live on the plains. Black-footed ferrets have not lived in Colorado since the early 1950s according to Colorado Parks and Wildlife. The black-footed ferret is the only species native to North America.

The ferrets were reintroduced into Colorado back in 2001. However, a plague outbreak hindered their successful reintroduction to the state. The plains reintroduction was attempted again in 2013 when 300 ferrets were released to six sites across the state. If you want to read more about the black-footed ferret of Colorado, you can do so on the Colorado Parks and Wildlife site.
