Have An Idea? Colorado Holding Design Contest for 150th Anniversary Plates
Colorado doesn't look a day over 125, but we'll be celebrating the 150th anniversary of becoming a state in 2023. With that. we have the chance at designing the license plate.
It was August 1, 1876, that Colorado got its slap on the bottom and was welcomed as the nation's 38th state. 150 years later, our cars could have your design on the license plates.
What will the special license plate look like, that commemorates Colorado's 150th birthday? You could have a say in it, as they've opened up a design contest to all Coloradans. Officially, it's the 'Historic Colorado Contest,' and it could be a part of your own history, should you win.

They'll have two divisions (13 and older, under 13,) with the top committee-picked designs being voted on by the public. The new plates, that will cost the same as standard plates, will be available on Colorado's 150th birthday, August 1, 2023.
Each entrant can submit three entries into the contest, where the winning entrant will receive a $1,000 grant, their own special "commemorative" license plate, and be a part of media releases about the new plates.
THINGS THAT CANNOT CHANGE WITH THE COLORADO LICENSE PLATE:
- The Mountains, shadowing.
- 'Colorado' - the states name on the plate.
- The Numbering.
THINGS THAT CAN BE MODIFIED WITH THE CONTEST:
- The sky and bottom of the plate (the design, color.)
- The tagline: "Respect Life," for example.
- The logo (your art) in the middle of the plate.
Submissions are being taken from September 19, 2022 until November 30, 2022.
