The other day I went and saw the new movie "Don't Be Afraid of the Dark" thanks to our friends at Carmike Cinemas and it was...interesting. The movie stars Guy Pearce and Katie Holmes and is written by the man that brought us the great movie, "Pan's Labrynth", Guillermo del Toro. The movie's premise is about the couple that lives in an old house that has small demon like creatures living in it that want to take their daughter for their own. This movie is a remake and I am not sure how close it is to the original, so I am going to have to check it out.

On to the review! The visuals and sound in the movie are excellent. They really used the surround sound to make the little creatures even creepier. The story is good but I feel that they could have moved it along a bit faster and it is a bit preditable. The acting is pretty decent and I am happy to see that Tom let Katie out of the cage...I mean house to do some more acting. My one big problem with the movie is the marketing. The tralier made it sound more like a horror movie when, to me, it was more like a thriller. Sure, there were a few parts that would make people jump and the voices were flat out creepy, but overall I felt that it was more suspense than horror.

Overall, I would give it a 3 1/2 star rating out of 5.
