Everyone knows that old statistic that you are more likely to get struck by lightning than win the lottery.  Bill Isles of Kansas certainly does, since it happened to him!

Isles, 48, bought three lottery tickets for the Mega Millions jackpot on Thursday, according to MSNBC.  He then mentioned to a friend that he was more likely to get stuck by lightning than hit the jackpot.  He was right.

Later that night, Isles was in his backyard when suddenly there was a flash and a loud boom.  You guessed it, lightning!

"It threw me to the ground quivering," Isles said in a telephone interview on Saturday. "It kind of scrambled my brain and gave me an irregular heartbeat."

Luckily, Isles is a volunteer weather spotter and had a ham radio close by.  A fellow spotter heard him recounting the ordeal and called 911.

Isles was in the hospital overnight to make sure his heart rate returned to normal.  Luckily, he sustained no burns or other physical injuries.

Although one of the winning Mega Millions tickets was sold in Kansas, it didn't belong to Isles.

So next time you buy a lottery ticket, stay out of the rain!
