Walmart recently announced that one of the major retailer's stores is closing down a local location in Colorado. Is this the beginning of another bad closing trend across our state?

Get ready to say goodbye to yet another local community mainstay as the major closures continue midway through 2024. As far as major chain location closings go, we've lost way more than we could ever imagined in the last couple of years alone.

From popular TJ Max, Best Buy, Red Lobster, and Big Lots locations, to every Bed Bath & Beyond, Tuesday Morning, and just added Rue21 location in the state going away. How crazy do these closures get over the next year?

In Colorado, we have some pretty big players in the grocery and retail superstore market. While we have many different Target, King Soopers, Safeway, and Walmart stores, one local Walmart is closing its doors for good next month.

While retail juggernaut, Walmart, is clearly doing pretty well financially, they're still fighting the same battle that most businesses battle, which is getting customers constantly flowing in and out of their front doors. One Walmart location in Aurora didn't quite meet the expectations set to stay open and is now being forced to close.

The Walmart Neighborhood location at 14000 East Colfax in Aurora, will be closing its doors for the last time on Friday, June 7th, 2024. In the news release regarding the closure, Walmart said:

This decision was not made lightly and was reached only after a careful and thoughtful review process. We have nearly 5,000 stores across the U.S. and unfortunately, some do not meet our financial expectations. While our underlying business is strong, this specific store hasn’t performed as well as we hoped.

The 130 local employees who currently run the store have the option of relocating to another Walmart's Colorado locations. They have more than five other Walmart stores in the surrounding areas. While this location is still operating, its final day in business will be June 7th. It seems all that money they saved by not offering bags to their customers in Colorado wasn't enough.
