Colorado Summer Staycation: Camp V, a Mining Town Glampground

Ever heard of Vancorum, Colorado? Yeah, we haven't either, but we definitely want to go there now. It's drivable from the Front Range in less than eight hours, located south of Grand Junction. What was once an abandoned mining town is now home to Camp V, a new desert 'glampground' in Western Colorado.

Colorado has plenty of old mining towns and deserted camps, but this one's getting repurposed in a pretty cool way. According to Camp V's social media, in the 1940s, Vancorum was a mining town, and in 2021 it became 'a boutique camp art experience.' (And an affordable one, but we'll get to that.)

Glampers can stay in Airstream trailers, tents or bunk in one of the old mining cabins. You can also B.Y.O.RV.

The Camp V cabins were built in 1942, but now have some updated amenities, like record collections, a full bathroom, shower and kitchenettes. Cabins for two start at under $150, and cabins for four people start at $175 per night.

Or, you can opt for an Airstream, though a little pricier. The 'Sheila' sleeps three and starts around $300 per night. (And they do have AC.)

The ultimate glamping option is an 'onion tent.'

And yes, there's a shower.

While there is WiFi, this is the perfect place to unwind and disconnect, and it doesn't require an airport.
