Have you ever taken one of the toll roads in Colorado and received a bill at a later date? You knew you took the toll road, you process your payment and you go about your everyday life.

One Colorado woman was in for quite the surprise when she checked her mail and received an outrageous bill from ExpressToll.

Michelle Reed, a Lyft driver from Parker, told KDVR that she is well aware of the toll fees associated with using E-470. But when receiving a bill for $5,000, she was surprised. Reed had documentation that she was sent a toll bill in 2018 to her home address, but nothing since.

The E-470 Public Highway Authority looked into the bill and found an error in the system showing that apartment numbers were not being shown in the data between E-470 and the Department of Motor Vehicles.

KDVR says that the issue has been resolved with the DMV and Reed's fees and fines have been waived. An arrangement has been made to pay the outstanding legitimate charges.

If you were not aware, unpaid tolls may hinder the renewal of your vehicle's registration. It's always a good idea to keep tabs on any trips you may take using toll roads. The best course of action is to have an Express Toll account.
