We received a few calls this afternoon about a brush fire burning near Highway 34 and County Road 17. According to the Coloradoan, the blaze started late this afternoon and was sparked by a passing train about a mile south of Weld County Road 17 and Crossroad Boulevard.

The train engineer is actually the one who called the fire in to emergency dispatchers.

Fanned by strong winds the fire did threaten at least nine homes, but firefighters were able to get the blaze under control.

According to the Greeley Tribune, the Windsor-Severance Fire Protection District battled the blaze and then called out Eaton and Johnstown to help.

Thankfully no structures were damaged and no one was hurt.

That's much better news than what we're hearing about the Stuart Hole Fire burning near the Colorado/Wyoming Border. It was at 5-7 acres just after lunch, but was last reported to be over 200-acres and growing.

I think our brave firefighters are in for a long summer. :(
